Agentic Finance, Doing More with Less

Happy Tuesday Brex Community,

Excited for Brex Mode, our inaugural conference on agentic finance, one of the hottest categories in tech right now. We hosted Brex Mode last week in SF and hosting it in NYC today as well!

On a related note, there is some good news and bad news, depending on where you sit.

Bad news for some is that available finance jobs are now at 2012 levels. This is obviously concerning for those who looking for roles in the space. Likely a combination of economy and impact of AI.

Good news is that there is a long list of new applications geared for finance professionals, allowing them to do more with less, enhance efficiency and reducing headcount costs, which is something that finance leaders tend to focus on. It seems like every week, there is a new startup raising VC funding and providing innovative native AI solutions for the finance community. Most of the startups I see are going after incumbents such Netsuite, Xero, Quickbooks, Coupa, Bill, etc. Ultimately, leveraging these AI tools will automate repetitive daily minutiae, freeing up finance leaders to focus on high-impact, strategic efforts.

Have a great week,

meet Capitol AI and their CEO Shaun Modi

Problem - Most institutions today face an intelligence paradox: more data than ever, yet less control over how decisions are formed. They are currently renting intelligence from AI landlords creating a monopolistic Lock-in that turns their IP into someone else's training data. This isn't just a technical hurdle; it's a security liability. Organizations are overwhelmed by data and experimenting with generic AI tools that lack auditability, repeatability, and secure deployment, and as a result, critical decisions are increasingly shaped by systems they do not fully control. This is where Capitol AI comes in.

Solution - Capitol AI is building a sovereign operating system for intelligence that runs entirely inside enterprise infrastructure, transforming proprietary data into structured, decision-grade artifacts such as due diligence reports, regulatory documentation, and executive intelligence. The platform is model-agnostic, fully auditable, and operates with no data egress — giving institutions durable control over their data, workflows, and standards.

Why Now - We're at an inflection point. Every major institution is racing to harness AI; however,  the question is no longer whether to adopt it, but who controls it.  Institutions from hedge funds to regulatory bodies are shifting from experimentation to deployment, but lack trusted, explainable AI systems. As AI becomes core to enterprise infrastructure, organizations are demanding more than chatbots and plug-ins — they want intelligent systems that can embed into operations, respect governance rules, and deliver real ROI.  The market validation is already there: Capitol is already working with some of the most respected institutions around the world.
