Boston's tech scene is the silent powerhouse
Securing $761.8 million in VC dollars September '24
Happy Tuesday Brex community,
Boston's tech scene is the silent powerhouse reshaping industries while the spotlight shines elsewhere. In September alone, startups and ventures firms here secured a staggering $761.8 million, with biotech ventures leading the charge. We're witnessing a surge in companies scaling across life sciences, insurtech, fintech, enterprise AI, and hardware—real innovation that's quietly redefining markets.
As talent spins out of stalwarts like Klaviyo and HubSpot to launch new ventures, it begs the question: How should Boston position itself on the global stage? Consistently ranking in the top three for venture deal volume, yet the noise doesn't match the momentum. Perhaps it's time we turn up the volume.
At Brex, we're doubling down in Boston this Q4. If you've got bold ideas to elevate our ecosystem to the next level, we're all ears. Let's shape the future of innovation together.
And as always, go Celtics!

Paul Albert-Lebrun is the co-founder and CEO of Nodal.
Nodal is building the world's most intuitive port terminal software to help cargo ports grow their business.Nodal's first product is a Virtual Advisor for operations leaders. It analyzes operational files and existing information systems, like existing terminal operating systems, to pinpoint root causes of plan deviations and offers actionable solutions to achieve performance goals. Similar to how Google Maps optimizes your journey for shorter travel times, Nodal helps leaders navigate upcoming bottlenecks and prevent delays to hit a performance target.
Ambassador’s Perspective
With vessels, trains, and trucks spending nearly half their operational time waiting to be loaded or unloaded, Nodal aims to reduce this waiting time by 10% globally. In an industry overwhelmed by data, Nodal empowers operations leaders to make sense of this information to proactively reduce delays and improve productivity. By doing so, it benefits the entire supply chain—from carriers and unions to shippers and consumers.

Starting a company is an incredible feat...but how do you actually begin acquiring customers? For @ZachSchleien, CEO of @GetFilterOff, it came down to pitching really great stories to journalists. We’re going to see this more and more, but a lot of VCs' biggest competition right now is founders simply not wanting to raise money.
Many of the best founders we’ll see over the next few years are going to completely forgo venture funding and instead build lifestyle businesses… x.com/i/web/status/1…
