Celebrating your 2023 wins

& more exciting events to close out the year

Hey Brex community, Erica here!

This is my first time writing for the Brex newsletter, so I’m excited to meet many of you for the first time! 👋 I recently joined the team as the NYC Startup Ambassador, so if you’re a founder, VC, or builder in the NYC area and we haven’t met yet, I’d love to hear from you! My email is [email protected].

Now back to the intro… as we wrap up the final weeks/push of 2023, we wanted to hear from YOU what your biggest accomplishment was this past year. We all know the market has been rough and fundraising has been next to impossible, but with the end of the year comes a chance to reflect on the wins!

If you need help brainstorming some wins, here are some ideas: maybe you onboarded a marquee customer you’ve been courting for awhile, maybe you hired an incredible teammate that filled a much-needed role, maybe you got a reply from a cold email you never thought you’d get a response to, or maybe you got a new job that you love! Send me an email with your work win from 2023, and we’ll pick a couple of your wins to feature in next week’s newsletter as a way to celebrate the awesome Brex community.

Happy reflecting!

Emerging Manager Spotlight 🤩

The Springbank Collective partners - Jen Lee Koss, Courtney Leimkuhler, Elana Berkowitz -at the New York Stock Exchange

Springbank invests in the infrastructure serving the long-overlooked needs of women and working families. They focus on areas like flexible and remote work, caregiving and care infrastructure, women’s health, and household financial wellness and productivity, which have historically been viewed as “women’s issues.” Nice to have; not need to have. They believe these are, in fact, “everyone issues” at the heart of a functioning society, labor market, and the economy at large.

They have been investing against this thesis since 2019 when they started pooling their personal capital, and then rallying their network of friends and former colleagues to create Springbank Collective, writing syndicate checks together. They have invested in 32 companies so far, with founders of all genders and backgrounds. They recently announced their $40 million fund with backing from many of those same Collective members, as well as world-class investors, including Union Square Ventures, Foundry Group, AIG, Investinor, and Stardust Equity.

In Mario Gabriele’s beloved The Generalist newsletter, he does a deep-dive on Hummingbird Ventures’s outstanding returns across several funds. See more in the post below!
