SKO, Culture and Values

Happy Tuesday Brex Community,

Got back from the Brex Sales Kickoff (SKO) last week in LA, it was a great way to celebrate fellow colleagues and hear directly from partners + customers on why they like to align with Brex but also what we could be doing better. While in LA the CEO of Lovable, Anton Osika, wrote a post on X about the values of the company and it really resonated with me. When I think about company culture, it about the values of the company, not about what perks (cold brew, dogs, ping pong, free lunch) you have in the office, which is something that some people tend focus on. Company culture is about how employees behave. To quickly summarize the Lovable culture points that stood out to me: speed/execution, customer focused & candor. You don’t need a laundry list of values at a company and these three hit the most important ones from my perspective. In my role as player/coach, these culture points are ones that I focus ones with my team. If you haven’t set the culture for your company or your team as of yet, these are great ones to use, there is no need to re-create the wheel but it has to be authentic and executed on consistently.
