tokenmaxxing @ Brex

Happy Tuesday Brex Community,

Tokenmaxxing has been in the news for a few weeks now, with good conversations happening on both the benefits and the tradeoffs.

At Brex, we've been AI-pilling employees by giving them broad access to frontier models and AI tools to learn and experiment. On the model side, I personally rotate between Claude (primarily via Cowork), Codex, and Gemini to understand how each performs across different tasks. Having access to all three has been a real accelerant. Without it, I'd probably be hesitant to expense these tools and would've taken a much slower, one-at-a-time approach to getting up to speed.

Yesterday we publicly announced an internally built product called Magpie. It gives detailed visibility into how we're actually using AI in terms of usage trends, model breakdowns, leaderboards, and more. It's internal facing and open to anyone at Brex, which I love. Transparency like that has a compounding effect on how a team learns and adopts new tools.

There are a lot of teams building Magpie-type products right now, both for internal use and to sell externally to companies hungry for this kind of usage intelligence. Curious to see what insights end up being most valuable as this category matures.

Have a great week!

Gigascale Capital just launched their inaugural $250M Fund to Rebuild the Physical Economy. Former Meta CTO Mike Schroepfer is leading the firm and focusing on early-stage founders who are rebuilding the physical economy, here is the thesis:

  • Demand is exploding. AI data centers, electrification, onshoring, and industrial growth are exposing the limits of legacy physical systems. The best companies aren’t wondering if demand exists, they’re racing to meet it.

  • Physical companies are different. Unlike software, they carry heavier capex, different failure modes, and early architectural decisions that compound dramatically. Gigascale’s team (now including General Partner Victoria Beasley and Partner Evaline Tsai) brings deep operational experience to navigate these realities.

  • Climate wins through better economics, not virtue. Schroepfer’s most quoted line captures the philosophy: “Climate impact won’t come from asking the world to adopt worse systems for virtuous reasons. It comes when a different technical approach makes the cleaner system also simpler, more scalable, and cost competitive.”

The fund is already deploying capital into companies like Heron Power (advanced transformers), Radiant (micro-reactors), and Solcoa (rare earth magnet recycling). Schroepfer closed the thread by simply stating: “That’s the future we’re backing.”This announcement marks a notable shift: a prominent tech leader doubling down on deep tech and physical-world infrastructure at a moment when AI is driving unprecedented demand for energy and materials. It’s a pragmatic bet that the most impactful climate solutions will be the ones that are simply better, cheaper, faster, and more scalable than the systems they replace.
